When someone wonders whether to try mountain biking, it’s like opening a Pandora’s box of reasons. If we had to distill it down, here are some compelling arguments:
Mountain biking thrives on challenge. There’s always a new ledge to conquer, a drop to nail, a hill to ascend faster, or a descent to rip down. Every ride presents an opportunity to set fresh goals: mastering a tricky trail feature and achieving a personal record on a favorite descent. If you thrive on challenges, mountain biking is your sport. Of course, the ultimate aim is always to have a blast!
Sure, hiking also gets you to beautiful spots, but biking gets you there faster! Especially now, during wildflower season, moments like these make us wish everyone owned a bike. Yes, flowers are everywhere, but seeing them as you zoom by high above the Colorado River or amidst the lofty mountains near Crested Butte is a different experience. Are you standing atop Lake Tahoe’s Flume Trail on a bike? Unforgettable.
It’s not just about the scenery, either. Today, after the final climb on our ride, we paused and gazed toward the Grand Mesa. All around us was serene silence. Such beauty and tranquility are found only on biking or hiking trails.
Ah, yes, mountain biking isn’t just about pedaling. It’s about camaraderie—being out with friends and afterward sharing some brews in a gravel parking lot with flip-flops. It’s about that sense of belonging. Whether enjoying an après-bike at the Hot Tomato in Fruita with a New Belgium brew and a slice of Granny’s Pesto Pizza, everyone finds their way to unwind after a ride, knowing they’ve earned it!
When you’re biking, focusing on the trail, there’s no room in your mind for worries about the spat with your mom, that last-minute project from your boss, or even the weed bed that’s taken over your backyard garden. Biking is an escape from all that. When you’re on the bike, it’s just you, the ride, and the moment—often reason enough to saddle up and hit the trails.
Can we brag a bit? Mountain biking keeps us in great shape! Strong legs, defined biceps, low resting heart rate, and cholesterol levels—biking delivers a mix of high-intensity cardio, medium to low-intensity workouts, muscle building, and a solid core and arms workout. For many, biking is the ultimate full-body exercise regimen.
So, the next time someone asks why you’re into mountain biking, the better question is: why wouldn’t they be?
