Mountain bikers no longer have to let the weather keep them from riding — for most of you living in the USA you’re probably eagerly dusting off your bikes, gearing up for warm weather. For us here in Arizona, sadly, it’s the opposite. While there aren’t currently any indoor mountain bike parks in Arizona (most of us just schlep up to Flagstaff for a weekend), we’re putting the spotlight on four of the most exciting and feature-filled parks in the Lower 48 and Canada. These parks offer a great way to keep your riding skills sharp, no matter the weather outside.
Ray’s Indoor Bike Park: Cleveland, OH & Milwaukee, WI
In 1996, on a cold and wet Thanksgiving weekend, a crazy dream was born: to build an indoor mountain bike paradise in an old factory building. Eight years later, that dream became a reality. The first of its kind and a true industry leader, Ray’s Indoor Bike Park provides a riding option during the long Upper Midwest winter. It’s a a fun and family-friendly experience for riders of all levels. Ray’s offers a wide range of features, and it is a must-ride for any serious mountain biker.
The Wheel Mill: Pittsburgh, PA
The brainchild of owner Harry Geyer, The Wheel Mill opened in the spring of 2013 through the collaborative efforts of the local cycling community and volunteers. This 80,000 square foot park is packed with ramps and trails of all kinds, many of which have been designed and built by local trail legends. Their focus is on creating trails and jump lines that feel organic and natural, with designs and materials that reflect their commitment to sustainability. Nearly 75% of the park features are assembled from reclaimed lumber and materials, making The Wheel Mill a unique and eco-friendly destination for riders of all levels.
Joyride 150: Toronto, ON, Canada
Located in Toronto, Joyride 150 offers riders 100,000 square feet of riding options, with features for all ages and skill levels. The park has an experienced in-house service and repair shop and hosts a variety of special events, including Old Guy’s Night and Women’s Night. At Joyride 150, their love for bikes is at the heart of everything they do. Their goal is to create an environment where everyone who walks through their doors has an unforgettable time on two wheels, pushing themselves to learn new skills and realize their full potential. They believe that no one should be held back from achieving their goals by the actions or attitudes of others, and they’re committed to fostering a positive and supportive community for riders of all levels.
Burlington Bike Park: Burlington, WA
Located in Burlington, Washington, Burlington Bike Park features one acre of pumps, bumps, and jumps, all constructed with real dirt. If you want to improve your mountain biking skills, Burlington Bike Park offers private lessons tailored to your needs and abilities. With their expert instructor Joseph Prisel, you’ll receive personalized one-on-one instruction that can help take your riding to the next level. Lessons are available for all skill levels, and you can choose to pay $50 per hour or purchase a package of four lessons for $160. Whether you’re a beginner looking to build a strong foundation or an experienced rider seeking to refine your technique, they’re here to help you reach your goals.
