Whether you are seeking a day of easy or difficult mountain biking followed by a city excursion where you can enjoy great restaurants, juice bars, and desserts, then this is the trail for you. It is a pleasure to reward your hard work with food and a pleasant atmosphere after a long ride. The day kicks off with a warm-up ride along Los Gatos Creek Trail through Vasona Lake Park and Los Gatos to get the adrenaline going.

There is a paved path that can be used by cyclists and pedestrians alike. It would be best if you announced yourself by saying “on your right” or “on your left” as you pass a person. Los Gatos Creek Trail can be seen on Google maps, so you can see where a good place is for you to park so that you can get to the trail. My favorite entry point is to park in the lot across the street from River Walk Apartments on Bascom, near the corner of Bascom and Hamilton.
The trail runs along Los Gatos Creek and is below the level of the street, so despite being in the middle of a city, it is beautiful. You will reach Vasona Lake Park by following the path. As the park is usually packed with people and families, leaving the paved path and roughing it in the grass to avoid the crowds is ok. The restrooms are also available if you need to take a break before attacking the hill.
The Los Gatos Creek trail will turn into Flume Trail shortly after that. In Los Gatos, you can follow the trails or use the streets to get to the trailhead quickly and easily. Regardless of which path you take, you will eventually reach Jones Trail. At this point, you are no longer in the city; you are in the woods. You will be riding on singletrack, and you will have a challenging climb. You will be glad you took the time to warm up. Once the steep incline has been completed, the trail winds through the woods, then descend the dam face, returning to Los Gatos Creek Trail. Continue to follow this trail until you reach East Main Street once again. By now, you should be feeling quite satisfied with yourself.

This is where all your hard work is going to pay off. Los Gatos is a great place to reward your hard work with fine dining and a beautiful atmosphere. “Icing On The Cake” on East Main Street is one of our favorite places to get a chocolate cupcake. A little bit of decadence to reward your hard work. Or maybe grab a cocktail at Los Gatos Soda Works!
There are many coffee shops (be sure to check out Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company), restaurants, and shops of all kinds, so there is something to meet everyone’s needs, or you can skip the town and go back to your car in West San Jose, along the Los Gatos Creek Trail.
What a great way to spend the day!
